Microsoft finally released an Android 11 update for the original surface duo. The foldable smartphone was intended to get an update in 2021, but Microsoft missed the original deadline. However, now, the owner of the surface duo will finally be able to take advantage of the changes brought by Android 11 to fold.
Android 11 came to the surface duo at the same time with January security patches. That means you not only get new security functions, but also an updated operating system with updates this month. Microsoft enters details of changes that come on the website. Here are some highlights.
First, the surface duo will now support Xbox Game Pass. This means you will be able to play and find games using Cloud and controller on the screen. Of course, you will need a subscription service, but it would be nice to have a full function for the game pass on the original surface duo. In addition, Microsoft has optimized fast settings and notification drawers for portrait orientation and landscapes. We are not sure what is appropriately optimized, but, hopefully, users will see a better response when using these features.
Furthermore, the Duo Surface now supports photos by OneDrive, a new playing double experience that allows you to view and edit your photos from the OneDrive application. If you don’t use a photo program like Google Photos, then this can be a great way to adjust the photos you save in your Microsoft OneDrive folder. How to update your surface duo
If you want to take advantage of new features added with Android 11, you need to update your Microsoft Surface duo. Fortunately, the process is not too difficult, even though you might need to wait for patches to be launched to your device. According to Microsoft support documents, you must go to the settings application and then navigate to the page and system update system to download updates.
If you cannot download updates, it is most likely not available for your device. Unfortunately, there is no way to force your cellphone to update, so what you can do is wait.
Glad to see Microsoft finally pushed updates Android 11 for the surface duo. Android phones have been very bad about not accepting updates on time, and while the surface of the duo gets access to Android 11 while many others have run on Android 12, it is still a patch that should be considered because of the additions made.
